La tua musica (e quella dei tuoi amici) sempre ed ovunque disponibile con Simplify Media

A casa ho parecchi brani musicali, raccolti dai miei tanti CD che ho lasciato in Italia e, in seguito, certosinamente catalogati (si dice taggati) nel corso degli anni.

Ho anche il mio lettore mp3, nel quale trasferisco i brani che preferisco. Di tanto in tanto però vorrei scegliere sul momento la musica da ascoltare, cosa impossibile da fare quando sono fuori casa.

Oggi ho deciso di cercare un modo semplice, veloce e gratuito per accedere alla mia libreria musicale dall'ufficio.

Di metodi ce ne sono tanti, ma questo che ho trovato, Simplify Media, mi sembra il migliore in termini di praticità e sicurezza. Qui voglio spiegare in pochi passi come fare.

1. Scarica Simplify Media

Il programma è disponibile per Mac, Windows, Linux e iPhone/iPod Touch.

Mac:
1. Scarica e apri SimplifyMedia.dmg (dovrebbe aprirsi automaticamente a fine download).
2. Trascina l'icona di SimplifyMedia sull'icona Applicazioni.
3. Il programma ora è installato.
4. Avvia Simplify Media dalla cartella Applicazioni in Finder.
5. Leggi "Configura Simplify Media" più avanti in questo articolo.
Windows:
- Scarica e apri SimplifyMediaSetup.exe.
- Leggi "Configura Simplify Media" più avanti in questo articolo.
Linux:
- Scarica e apri simplifymedia.tar.gz
- Leggi il file README ed esegui SimplifyMedia
- Leggi "Configura Simplify Media" più avanti in questo articolo
iPhone/iPod Touch: Scarica ed installa l'applicazione dall'Apple Store: non ho ancora provato, ma credo che questa versione del programma sia a pagamento.

2. Configura Simplify Media

Le seguenti istruzioni si basano sulla versione Windows del programma, tuttavia i passaggi sono identici per tutte le versioni, con piccole differenze trascurabili (ad esempio, per Mac avrai già avviato l'installazione, ma al primo avvio del programma saranno proposte più o meno le stesse schermate).

Avvia il programma scaricato e accetta la licenza d'uso (bottone "I agree"):
Alla domanda "Do you have an account?" rispondi "No"
Digita un nome utente (Screen name) e la tua password (due volte), poi premi su Next
Se la creazione dell'account è andata a buon fine, dovresti vedere questa finestra:
Digita il nome che vuoi far vedere per il tuo account (o ripeti il nome utente), il tuo indirizzo e-mail e il nome del computer sul quale stai installando SimplifyMedia (se lo installi su più computer, utilizza nomi diversi per distinguerli).
Ora dovrai indicare se vuoi condividere la tua libreria musicale:
- Share nothing: nessun brano sarà condiviso
- iTunes library and playlists: la libreria di iTunes e le playlist saranno condivise
- Windows Media Player 11 library and playlists (solo Windows): come sopra, ma per Windows Media Player
- Winamp library and playlists: come sopra, ma per Winamp
- My Music folder: invece di condividere la libreria di un programma specifico, puoi condividere tutti i brani di una cartella specifica nel tuo computer (generalmente, la cartella che contiene la musica)
Dopo aver premuto su "Next" il programma inizierà ad indicizzare i brani. Se questi sono tanti, un avviso ti informerà che potrebbe essere richiesto parecchio tempo per completare l'indicizzazione.
Ora il programma è completamente configurato.

3. Accedi alla libreria

Per accedere alla tua libreria condivisa (o a quella dei tuoi amici), installa nuovamente Simplify Media su un altro computer (al lavoro, per esempio) e segui gli stessi passi spiegati sopra.

Durante l'installazione, specifica di avere già un account:

Simplify Media ti chiederà d'inserire il tuo screen name e la password per poterti connettere al servizio e accedere alla tua libreria musicale.

Ora apri iTunes, Media Player, Winamp, Front Row o Rhythmbox: dovresti vedere una nuova libreria per ciascun amico che condivide la musica con te (compresa la libreria che tu stai condividendo, quando ti colleghi da un altro computer).

La libreria funziona come una normale libreria musicale, con la differenza che puoi solo ascoltare la musica o creare delle playlist personalizzate: i files originali non saranno toccati (tranne forse per il conteggio del numero di riproduzioni di un brano e le votazioni: ma su questo devo ancora indagare) e non potranno essere fisicamente scaricati (leggi copiati).

Ovviamente, ciascun computer che contiene la libreria originale dovrà restare acceso.

Per aggiungere amici e/o altre librerie musicali, apri Simplify Media, clicca su "Invite", digita il nome utente (screen name) della persona e quindi premi "Invite by Screen Name".

Simplify Media limita per ora il numero massimo dei contatti a 30, quindi, se avete tanti amici, dovrete fare un minimo di selezione.

Per accettare una richiesta pendente, in fondo alla finestra vedrai l'elenco di tutte le richieste (se ce ne sono): clicca sul bottone verde per approvarle o su quello rosso per rifiutarle.
